Two of Marvel's most iconic street-level characters collide in Punisher vs. Spider-Man #1 — written by Dan Abnett with art by Matteo Della Fonte and a striking main cover by Jonas Scharf. Frank Castle and Peter Parker have always represented opposite ends of the vigilante spectrum — one defined by mercy, the other by finality — and this debut issue puts that ideological clash front and center with all the kinetic intensity the premise demands.

The Ultimate Street-Level Showdown
Dan Abnett is one of Marvel's most versatile and reliable writers — his ability to balance action, character depth, and high-concept premises makes him ideally suited for a story that is as much about ideology as it is about combat. Spider-Man believes in redemption. The Punisher believes in consequences. When their worlds collide, neither walks away unchanged. Matteo Della Fonte's artwork brings the gritty, kinetic energy this story demands, and Jonas Scharf's main cover sets the tone perfectly.
🔦 Fun Fact: Punisher and Spider-Man have one of the longest and most complex rivalries in Marvel history — their first major confrontation dates back to Amazing Spider-Man #129 (1974), the very issue that introduced Frank Castle to the Marvel Universe. Over 50 years later, the argument between them is still unresolved. Some debates are eternal.
CVR (Cover)CVR A: The Standard Edition. This is the primary artwork found in most retail shops.
CVR B (and beyond): The Variant Edition. "B" is the first alternative cover, followed by C, D, and so on. These are often produced in smaller quantities than Cover A.
VAR (Variant)Definition: Short for Variant.Purpose: A general label confirming the book is an alternative cover option rather than the standard retail edition. These are often used to showcase guest artists or celebrate special milestones.
CARD STOCK Material: A thicker, stiffer, and more premium paper (similar to a business card).Benefits: Highly durable and resistant to "spine ticks" (small structural cracks) or corner bending.
Standard covers use thin, glossy paper; Card Stock is the "deluxe" physical upgrade.
FOIL (Foil Variant)Effect: A special edition where parts (or all) of the cover are printed with metallic, reflective foil.
Visuals: Provides a shimmering, high-end look that catches the light. These are typically priced higher and sought after for their "shelf appeal."
